Oranjestad Investors Launch OBIZ to Drive the Development of Aruba’s Capital
Oranjestad investors have taken a major step toward revitalizing Aruba’s capital with the creation of the Oranjestad Business Investment Zone (OBIZ). The initiative follows the signing of a Letter of Intent between the Government of Aruba and the Oranjestad Investors Group (OIG), signaling a shared commitment to support the future development of downtown Oranjestad. OBIZ will strengthen the city through initiatives that support economic growth, improve quality of life, enhance safety, and preserve cultural heritage. Moreover, the foundation will collaborate with local businesses, community organizations, and government partners to create a sustainable urban center that promotes entrepreneurship and investment.
A Collaborative Vision for Oranjestad
OBIZ will operate as a formal foundation. It brings together private investors, government stakeholders, and the broader business community. This agreement reflects growing momentum in Oranjestad’s redevelopment. Additionally, it highlights the importance of coordinated investment to attract businesses, residents, and visitors.

The Oranjestad Investors Group (OIG)
The Oranjestad Investors Group formed in 2022. Initially, investors along Wilhelminastraat, including the Harms and Koeman families, AIB, and Atlas Risk Solutions, focused on practical improvements such as lighting, cleaning, and maintenance. Over time, additional property owners joined. They aligned their efforts with national development plans. With OBIZ now established, the group has a structured framework that ensures transparency, strong governance, and effective partnerships.
New Investment Opportunities in Downtown Development
Recently, OBIZ investors presented several development projects to government authorities. These projects include residential units, commercial spaces, and hospitality concepts. Together, they aim to revitalize Oranjestad’s historic center. Additionally, key urban challenges are being addressed. OBIZ and public institutions are streamlining permitting processes, supporting vulnerable residents, and expanding parking. One project under consideration is a multi-story parking garage at the former Texas location on the corner of Emmastraat. This facility will improve accessibility for residents, businesses, and visitors.
