Aruba Strengthens Regional Cooperation and Showcases Agricultural Excellence at DC ALFA Conference

June 1, 2026

Aruba was proudly represented at the recent Dutch Caribbean Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Alliance (DC ALFA) Conference held in St. Maarten, where local farmers and agricultural producers showcased the island’s commitment to strengthening its primary sector and advancing food security.

Knowledge Sharing and Agricultural Collaboration

The conference provided Aruba’s agricultural entrepreneurs with valuable opportunities to exchange experiences with colleagues from across the Dutch Caribbean, discuss shared challenges, and explore best practices that can help strengthen local food production and sector resilience. Their practical knowledge, dedication, and hands-on experience continue to play a vital role in building a stronger and more sustainable agricultural industry for Aruba.

Renewing Regional Cooperation Through DC ALFA

A key milestone during the conference was the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under the DC ALFA framework by Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Maarten. The agreement builds on the original partnership established in 2023 and strengthens long-term regional cooperation in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and food security through 2035. The renewed MOU reflects a shared commitment among the participating islands to enhance food security, reduce import dependency, promote sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices, support fisheries development, and create new opportunities within the primary sector.

Building a More Resilient Primary Sector

The agreement also supports the implementation of the DC ALFA Roadmap 2025–2035, which will guide regional priorities and collaboration in the years ahead. In addition, the participating islands expressed their intention to formalize DC ALFA as an independent legal entity, enabling stronger governance, improved access to external funding opportunities, and the implementation of long-term regional projects. For Aruba, the participation of local producers and the signing of the renewed MOU underscore the island’s commitment to fostering a resilient primary sector, encouraging innovation and knowledge exchange, and creating a more sustainable future for generations to come.
