Aruba Sets the Stage for Sustainable Growth with the Agri-Innovation Park

June 17, 2025

Aruba is taking bold steps toward building a more resilient and sustainable economy with the development of its Agri-Innovation Park (AIP), a state-of-the-art hub for commercial agriculture, knowledge-sharing, and innovation. This initiative is part of the country’s broader strategy to diversify its economy, enhance food security, and unlock new investment opportunities.

A Strategic Shift Toward Local Production

Under the framework of Aruba’s Economic Transition Plan (2023–2025), a comprehensive study conducted in collaboration with PRIVA, Santa Rosa, TWO-Aruba, and the Netherlands has revealed Aruba’s potential to significantly reduce its dependence on imported agricultural goods. The study estimates a potential economic value of AWG 111.8 million per year through local production, with a total market potential of AWG 300 million annually. Minister of Economic Affairs Geoffrey Wever emphasized that the Agri-Innovation Park is more than just a short-term project. “This is a structural investment in our future,” he stated. “The AIP lays the groundwork for greater food independence, job creation, and long-term, sustainable economic growth.”

Why the Agri-Innovation Park Matters for Investors

The Agri-Innovation Park offers strong potential for investors in sustainable, future-focused industries. It will provide modern greenhouses and infrastructure for lease, along with logistics support and technical assistance. The park also creates space for training, research, and innovation. Both experienced farmers and new Agri-preneurs can grow their operations without large startup costs. By centralizing production and sharing resources, the AIP lowers entry barriers and boosts sector-wide productivity. It aims to support and strengthen the existing agricultural network, not compete with it.

Employment Impact and Next Steps

In its initial phase, the Agri-Innovation Park is expected to create 130 direct jobs, with the potential to grow to over 300 long-term positions. It will also generate indirect employment across related industries, supporting a more inclusive and diversified economy. The next steps include assessing financial feasibility, finalizing the operational model, and designing the AIP complex. The Government of Aruba, together with the Netherlands and local partners, is committed to delivering the project in a responsible and sustainable way.
