Aruba Leads the Caribbean in Regional Trade Expansion at Agroalimentaria 2025

June 16, 2025

Aruba marked a major milestone in regional trade development with its strong participation in Agroalimentaria 2025, one of the Caribbean’s most important agri-food trade fairs. The Aruban delegation, composed of 30 local entrepreneurs, was not only the largest present but also achieved the highest total value in prospective trade deals—amounting to an impressive USD 98.6 million.

A Strategic Step Toward Import Diversification

Organized in partnership with ProDominicana, the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD), and the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Aruba, this commercial mission represents a strategic push by Aruba to diversify its import base. The government is actively creating new pathways for importing agricultural products, beverages, and even construction materials from the Caribbean region.

Minister of Economic Affairs Geoffrey Wever emphasized that increasing trade with nearby countries like the Dominican Republic will reduce transportation and handling costs, with anticipated savings passed on to consumers in Aruba. This approach also aligns with the government’s broader goal of encouraging healthy market competition and strengthening the island’s food security.

Logistics Innovation for SME Growth

A standout achievement of the mission was the establishment of new logistics partnerships, particularly with Don Andres NV—a regional shipping and warehousing company. With shared-container consolidation services now available, small and medium-sized Aruban businesses can import goods more efficiently and affordably. If demand continues to rise, weekly shipments between Aruba and the Dominican Republic could become a reality, further deepening commercial ties.

Beyond Agriculture: Emerging Opportunities

While food and beverage products such as avocados, tomatoes, tropical juices, and honey attracted much attention, demand also surged for cigars, electrical supplies, and construction materials. This signals broader opportunities for investors interested in trade, logistics, and distribution hubs in Aruba, especially for regional goods.

This successful trade mission reflects Aruba’s growing relevance in Caribbean trade networks. For investors looking to tap into regional value chains, Aruba is emerging as a strategic platform for import, export, and distribution.
