Aruba Agricultural Investment Opportunities: Building a Resilient Primary Sector Through Innovation and Collaboration

May 8, 2025

Aruba agricultural investment opportunities are expanding as the government prioritizes food security, sustainability, and innovation in the primary sector. Under the leadership of Minister of Economic Affairs, Finance, and Primary Sector Geoffrey Wever, Aruba is implementing a bold strategy to transform local agriculture into a resilient, future-proof engine of growth.

The Multi-Year Action Plan 2025–2028

In April 2025, Minister Wever held a key strategic meeting with the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (DLVV) Santa Rosa, where Director Nathalie Maduro presented the Multi-Year Action Plan 2025–2028. This plan outlines the concrete steps Aruba will take to strengthen food production, reduce reliance on imports, and stimulate innovation across the sector. “Food security is not a luxury—it’s a basic need,” Minister Wever emphasized, setting the tone for Aruba’s agricultural policy for the years ahead.

Agri Innovation Park: A Hub for Growth

A cornerstone of this strategy is the development of the Agri Innovation Park—a modern hub for local fruit and vegetable production using advanced, sustainable agricultural technologies. The park is based on a feasibility study by the Dutch firm Priva and financed through the Landspakket agreement. It will serve not only as a production center but also as a knowledge and innovation hub for agri-entrepreneurs, offering access to technology, training, and modern infrastructure.

Collaborating with Commercial Farmers

Minister Wever is ensuring that this transformation is built in partnership with those who know the land best: Aruba’s farmers. In recent meetings with commercial producers from 297 Farm, Cunucu Fresh, and STR Agriculture, the Minister exchanged ideas, listened to their challenges, and shared his vision for a more inclusive and innovative sector. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting them in the short term while working on long-term solutions to enhance capacity, financing, and innovation.

Showcasing Success: The HappyPonics Model

This collaborative approach was also on display during a recent visit to HappyPonics, where Minister Wever accompanied members of the Dutch Parliamentary Committee on Kingdom Relations. HappyPonics, led by Frank Timmen and Diego Acevedo, is a standout example of how local agricultural businesses can thrive with the right support. Thanks to the Agri Fund, introduced under Minister Wever’s previous tenure, HappyPonics was able to scale operations using innovative financial tools like the Agri Loan, developed in collaboration with Qredits.

A Regional Model for Sustainable Agriculture

With political and technical support from the Netherlands and a clear roadmap in place, Aruba is setting itself apart as a Caribbean leader in agricultural resilience and innovation. These efforts are not just about food—they are about economic opportunity, sustainability, and the well-being of the Aruban people.
